"Well this isn't so bad," Brigid said kicking it into high gear and running up next to Leviathan. He glanced at her and sneered, "I'm out here because of you." Brigid smiled and said, "But at least we can talk out here." Leviathan grit his teeth and began running faster. Brigid kept up with his stride, having to work her legs twice as hard because her legs were half as long.

"Talking is what got us into this mess," he growled. She was breathing too hard to reply. Gideon suddenly came up beside Brigid and said, "You should pace yourself, Brigid, we're going to be doing this until midnight." Brigid glanced at Leviathan and then nodded and fell back. Gideon glared at Leviathan and asked, "Why are you so mean, Levi?" Leviathan clenched his fists at the sound of that name and glanced at Gideon. He was older and taller, but they were both Elites. He looked back down at the ground at his bare feet pounding against the rough concrete. Suddenly, without a second thought, Leviathan's foot snapped out and kicked Gideon's legs out from under him. Gideon fell forward, his hands barely coming out to break his fall in time.

"Why are you so stupid?" Leviathan asked, his voice and face blank and void. He left Gideon on the ground, blood pouring from the teenager's hands and knees and continued across the courtyard.

"That was a dirty trick," Gideon said as Leviathan passed him on his way back across the courtyard. Gideon was back on his feet, the knees of his pants stained with blood. He began running alongside Leviathan.

"One you should have seen coming," Leviathan said stonily. Gideon scoffed and they passed Brigid as she headed the opposite direction.

"I'll tell Lady Morrigan you drew blood when not in formal combat," Gideon said. Leviathan smiled at Gideon and he could see that fear in Gideon's expression. The same reaction most students had when they saw Lady Morrigan smile. The feeling that if this person was smiling, something was wrong.

"Fine. You can her that and I will tell her how you lie in lust with a serving girl," Leviathan said. Gideon's stride slowed minutely and then he sped back up.

"How did you know?" he asked. Leviathan scoffed and said, "How could I not know?" Leviathan began running at full tilt and Gideon fell back. Running was something that Leviathan was good at. It cleared his mind and worked the anger out of his muscles. He reached the other end of the courtyard in an absurdly short amount of time and started back the other way. he felt his heart beating steadily, the air flowing into his nose and filling his lungs in a solid rhythm.

He had suddenly run six 400-yard laps in the time it took Gideon to run one.
